Welcome back for the last week of Christmas Is In The Air. Christine and I have so enjoyed having this linkup brought back for another year. Now today is all about food, which Christmas is surrounded by, at least in my family along with much more. Instead of sharing a recipe today, I wanted to change it up and talk about the Christmas Food Tradition in my family. I truly enjoy seeing what amazing dishes all of my great aunts bring. I have to say that my family has quite the many chefs which are super creative. For instance, thanksgiving one of my great-aunts made a cheese ball into a turkey shape. It was so intriguing and super tasty.
Christmas Food Traditions go back for years and years in my family. We eat lightly, so we think, on Christmas Eve and indulge in true decadence on Christmas Day with all the fixings. Seriously everyone really goes all out dipping through recipe books to find the most impressive dishes. When I think about Christmas so many fond memories comes back to me, mainly of family surrounded by amazing southern cooking. Ever heard of Turkey and Dressing? Yeah, we don’t have stuffing here, we bake our own dressing and not in a Turkey. Thinking about all of this food has me so ready for Christmas. The Holidays are a time to throw out all concepts of diets and really focus on eating great food and spending time with the ones you love. Ehh, and after the holidays let the grueling workouts commence.
What traditional food recipes do you find at Christmas with your family? On Christmas Day there will be Turkey with all the fixings to say the least. Followed with Ham, BBQ, Mac & Cheese, Cranberry Sauce, Mashed Potatoes, Sweet Potato Soufflé, Sweet Potato Pie, Pecan Pie, Corn Bread, Mustard Greens (From my Great Aunt & Uncle’s business), etc. Needless to say it’s mostly about the food. With a family with as many members as we have everyone brings a dish or two to feed everyone and two foot long tables and the kitten counter at my Great Grandmother’s house is covered with food.
On Christmas Ever, as we all sit around and chat up on what we have missed many activities are on going outside. We have small train rides, mule rides, and Santa even makes an appearance after dark. All the children get a chance to tell Santa what they want for Christmas, and moms get to take tons of pictures. Overall we celebrate Christmas the best way possible.
As you can see we have quite the Christmas Food Tradition in my family. What holiday foods are a tradition in your family? Do you get together like mine to celebrate life? Keeping Tradition alive is sometimes hard, but is something we genuinely try to do in my family. Don’t forget to link up your Holiday Food Post below! I would love some amazing recipe suggestions! Merry Christmas & Happy Monday!
