How was the weekend? Mine was great, but I admit I spent most my time studying and taking exams! I did get a bit of fun in the sun time in, so no worries! I admit I have been on a reading kick lately. I hope that you have found the novels I have recently reviewed to be just as amazing as I think. Today I am so excited to share the newest book I read that I am obsessed with. I was recommended this book by a blog bestie and talked with the author
about reviewing this novel. Luckily she sent me a copy to review! I am so excited that I was given the chance to review this one. I admit that I read it all in one afternoon. Crazy right? Well not really when it is a good one! Want to know more? Then just keep reading!Goodreads says:
What if your life changed overnight? For Brian and Becky, the late hours of an early August night brought on irrevocable tragedy. In a story that declares the strength and resilience of those on the cusp of adulthood and represents all that young love can be; Accidental Happiness takes its readers on an emotional journey which explores every facet of love and loss. The start of Brian’s senior year meant life was just as it should be for an eighteen year old about to realize his dreams. Yet only moments into his first soccer practice, despite barely catching a glimpse of the girl runningthrough his peripheral, his world as he knew it stopped.
What he never expected was for a new student to change his outlook on commitment, family, and finding the strength to fight for what you want from the people around you.Becky’s past year in Memphis was a roller coaster ride she had no recollection of boarding but never regretted riding.
Now on the brink of a college soccer career, at her dream school hundreds of miles away from family and the love of her life, freedom feels empowering. That is until the fateful night her world gets ripped from her side. Beaten down repeatedly as she attempts to heal the heart broken on a dark night when two teenagers felt they could take on the world as long as they had the other by their side, Becky now has the ultimate questions to answer.
Can anything be forgiven through love? How do you carry on when your foundation is continuously knocking you off your feet? What if it was all a lie? Accidental Happiness is a fictional coming of age novel that ties young love with parental angst and the never ending need to protect the ones you love.
My Thoughts:
Let me preface by saying, “What if your life changed overnight?” If someone asked me to describe the novel that is exactly how I would sum it up in one phrase. I know when I finished the book I immediately emailed Meredith to tell her that I was balling my eyes out by page 24. I am not one that gets super emotional, but this situation is one that I feel we are fear will happen to someone we love. The chapter layout is unique. As you read about what Becky is facing, it is followed up by a look into Brian is going through. Without giving too much away, let’s just say one of them is in the past tense and one is in the present. I have to say reading the words and imagining the horrific events that Becky goes through really pulls at my heart. I can’t image facing the obstacles that Becky did and having to be constantly reminded of loss. Talk about a roller coaster ride!
Let me be honest, when I first started this book I felt it was going to be another run of the mill love story with heartache. However, what I discovered is that this love story is filled with more love, struggle, heart ache, death and life than most can even dream about. What kept me reading was the force of wanting to know what happens next. I knew from reading the synopsis that there was going to be some “irrevocable tragedy” was going to happen. When I discovered this section of the book was about page 24, which I already noted above that brought me to tears. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this novel and as stated above I was able to read it rather quickly. When a book is this good the words just fly off the page. If you love books based on the idea of: coming of age, young love with a twist of obstacles caused by life and parental figures, then you will love this one. I recommend that you grab a cup of coffee and your own copy of Accidental Happiness. Forewarning, this one will probably consume most of your afternoon due to how drawn in you will be by Brian & Becky’s love story.
It is available in print and download. For those that love reading novels using their Kindle or Nook, you are in luck! You can purchase a copy from Barnes & Noble and Amazon. Want to see even more reviews? I promise they will tell you the same thing! Simply this is one amazing novel that is a MUST READ!
