As you can tell from the title of this post I fully believe that a trip to IKEA is really an adventure. I went for the first time last weekend to get my new vanity and well I must say it was quite the adventure. Days leading up to this trip to Atlanta I was super stressed. Mostly this trip was planned on going to IKEA and I checked the site daily to see if they had the Malm Dressing Table in stock. Well up until Friday afternoon they were scheduled to have some in stock on Saturday due to a new shipment coming in on Friday. Well surprise surprise on Friday afternoon I realized that their site had changed the stock evaluation and they would not have any until Sunday.

I freaked out and tried to call the company to ask how accurate the online stock stock estimate was for their company. Well that would be an easy task if you were able to directly call them, but if you ever do call them you realize that even when you get director to your store it is nearly impossible to get to speak to anyone. Finally after about 2 hours of calling different numbers I hit so many buttons once the automated system picked up that I was directed to a operator that actually had a pulse. She directed me and this guy checked and told me that they were out of stock and that there was a possibility they would get a shipment in and would be available on Saturday. Needless to say I don’t build 4 hour trips on possibilities, I like definites.
I had other things to do in Atlanta and since the trip was already scheduled I trudged on. Well I woke up Saturday morning and checked the site stock inventory estimate. Luckily they received a shipment and had 16 in stock. Needless to say I booked it over to IKEA and went into a Zoo. You know that feeling of impending doom you see on horror movies, well as I walked into the Zoo I seriously thought it was black Friday or something. Having no clue what to do and speaking with associates that looked like they could care less drove me to a level of irritation that I have not seen in a few years.
Finally after following the yellow brick road arrows on the floor, I found what I needed and got out of there. As I was riding my desk down the elevator to the parking garage, I apparently had the look of desperation. This guy riding the elevator looked at me and laughed and said “first time?” I said “Um…yea!” He replied that he could tell that that was the truth and recommended I not come on Saturdays due to how crazy it gets. Needless to say this IKEA trip was crazy and I doubt I will be back anytime soon.
I am happy that I have a new vanity! I can’t wait to show you all pictures!
What’s your IKEA story?
