Sephora Haul!

April 23, 2015 by SouthernBeautyGuide 4 Comments

I caved, yes I admit it. Who can resits a Sephora sale where you get 15% off as a VIB ROUGE member? I know I can’t! This sale gives me the opportunity to pick up products I need to replenish and products I want to try. This time around my main purchase was fragrance. A few months ago I picked the Tory Burch perfume sample as one of the free bits that came with my order. Once I smelled it, I knew I had to have it. However, the large price tag deterred me until this sale. I find that perfume kits can really be a great buy, and the deal I found was amazing! For only $10 more than the same size bottle of perfume, I was able to get lotion and soap. I thought it was worth it and decided to get it. This was 100% worth every penny and I get tons of compliments on how amazing I smell.

This was not the only thing that I picked up, as you probably guessed. I decided to also try more products from brands that I already love including Laura Mercier. Now I won’t get detailed today with these products, but you can expect a full report soon on each of these!

I have so been lusting over Kat Von D ‘s Everlasting Lipstick in Lolita for so long and it is honestly always out of stock. I was so excited when I saw it came back in stock for the sale. Also Marc Jacobs revamped his lipstick line this year and released new shaded and an altered formula. I do own one of the lipsticks he first released and so far I can tell you that the new lipsticks are so much nicer. Sephora keeps these in stock and there are tons of shades that it was so hard to decide. Finally, I picked out Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Crème in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. So far I am loving it, but look for a full report on both of these soon! vib sale 3
Highlighters and blush just simply call to me. After seeing Jaclyn Hill rave about this highlighter I had to pick it up. I had the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01 on my Loves list for months and months. After reading tons of reviews and looking at swatches all over the internet, I decided to pick this up. I have used it a few times but I am testing it out further.

The Kat Von D Lock It Foundation has been on my mind for a long time. I am one that has oily skin and always on a mission to find a better match of foundation for my skin type. I am excited to keep trying this out to see if it can become my new holy grail foundation. I also picked up her Shade + Light Contour brush to try with my Shade + Light palette that I picked up about a month ago.

I have never tried one of Laura Mercier’s blushes but after watching Prissy’s YouTube video on recommendations for the VIB Sale I had to pick up this blush. Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Lush Nectarine sure is pretty!  So far so good on this one! Look out for a more in-depth review on this product soon!vib 6

Last but not least my new Tory Burch perfume gift set! As you can see this is the huge bottle and really comes in a nice set. I have not tried the soap or lotion but I truly feel that this is worth every penny.

See something you like? Then click the image below to be taken straight to Sephora to buy it! Easy peasy right?

I truly picked up some amazing things in this sale and am so excited to continue testing them out. Did any of you buy anything in the sale and if so what did you get!

My Current Foundation Routine!

April 6, 2015 by SouthernBeautyGuide 6 Comments

PRODUCTS PURCHASED BY ME!Foundation routines change for me more than most people change toothbrushes, but that is how it goes when you have oily skin like mine and are on the quest to find the best foundations out there. I always see tons of beauty bloggers testing out foundations that give a luminous glow, which I simply think, “I’m not about that life.” You see my skin especially during the summer has my makeup sliding down my face, so during the spring and winter I am able to try out more foundations. After seeing tons of new foundations launch so far this year I knew I had to try a few out. One quickly made it into my foundation routine.foudn1

Before we get to foundation, I’m going to start with a base. Moisturizer is always my first step after toner and my first real step in my foundation routine. As stated above, I have super oily skin but that doesn’t mean I skip moisturizer. Often oily skin ladies believe that adding moisture will just make their face oilier. Actually skipping moisturizer and starving your skin of moisture causes your face to over produce oil. The last thing you need to do is dry your skin out like this. For oily skin ladies I recommend Caudalié Vinosource Moisturizing Mattifying Fluid. This stuff honestly smells amazing and high-end. I always start with applying a small about of this moisturizer all over my skin. Once this dries down, I apply my face primer.

For face primer I am currently trying to finish up my Benefit POREfessional.  I do love this primer for filling in large pores and smoothing out the skin for foundation application. Is primer necessary? I think so and here is why. Think of it as applying frosting to a cake, if the cake is uneven or has spots that are not perfect it causes the icing to look less than perfecting. Creating an even canvas (face) not only extends your makeup wear time, but also allows for a better foundation application. I have seen a world of difference on clients when I use a good primer. The skin flat out just looks better.

Next I go in with my foundation of choice, which of course is oil free. Let’s talk about Covergirl ‘s Ready, Set Gorgeous foundation! This foundation is not matte by any means but I truly love the consistency and am able to get a good amount of wear time even without it being truly matte. It sets at a natural finish and gives the skin a youthful glow, which I adore. I normally apply this with my Black Beauty Blender, which leaves an even and perfect finish. I am currently in the shade 210, which is on the light in of the shades they offer.

After foundation I apply MAC Pro Longwear concealer in NW20 using the same beauty blender and immediately set it with MAC Pro Emphasize power. If I don’t immediately set my concealer my eyes become a crease-filled mess. Finally I top it all off with setting my face with my powder of choice, which normally is MAC mineralizes Skinfinish natural in medium.

This wraps up my current foundation routine! What have you recently incorporated into yout foundation routine?

Is It Worth It? Marc Jacobs Lolita Palette Review!

April 2, 2015 by SouthernBeautyGuide 6 Comments

PRODUCTS PURCHASED BY ME!I’m a complete sucker for high-end eye shadows. I often feel the pigmentation warrants the money and when MARC JACOBS launched his makeup line at Sephora I knew I had to try it. I personally had high expectations for this palette after seeing some positive reviews. However after testing this palette and forming my opinion I have to say that I don’t feel it is worth the price. Is it fancy looking yes, but is the pigmentation good? Not really.

mj1

I guess I set my expectations super high for this one, which may be why I felt, disappointed. The first thing that I noticed is that the 4th and 5th shade is almost identical. The matte shadows are really soft but not as pigmented as I would like. If the mattes were the only shades in the palette I think I would have been more pleased, however the glitter shades are nothing less than a mess. I am use to working with glitters and I find even with the best mixing mediums and glitter glue it becomes so messy. If I had to rate this palette I would give it a C and this good of a rating due to how nice the packaging is on this palette.

mj2

Enough of my chatter, let’s look at some swatches! Even in the picture you can see flecks of glitter fall out everywhere, which frustrated me more than anything! Dear Lolita…I really wanted to love you!

IMG_1033

Why have I not returned it? Simply this is due to the fact that I am trying to make myself love it. The bottom line is that I don’t think this palette is anything special. After months of having it my opinion has not changed. I hope that I soon find a way to love it, but I don’t see this in any way as being a palette worth the price point. Now I want to make it clear that this is just my opinion and many people truly love this palette, however this one in my opinion is just not worth it.

Have you tried the Marc Jacobs Lolita palette? Do you have the same thoughts on this

BECCA Blushes Review!

March 18, 2015 by SouthernBeautyGuide 2 Comments

Becca oh Becca! Of course being somewhat beauty obsessed I am a sucker for blushes! If you look in my makeup collection, blushes and eyeshadows completely dominate. I admit like most beauty lovers I first discovered Becca’s highly coveted highlighters. Due to how much I love Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfectors (highlighters), I knew that I had to try a few of their blushes. I do own most of the ones they make and I can say that these are all amazing! Take a look for yourself!

BECCA BLUSH 1

BECCA 3The packaging almost looks like a tortoise shell. This really is my only complaint. Not that I think they are not pretty but the way the top sticks out further than the rest makes it more difficult to store these if you have a ton of makeup like myself. This is in no way a deal breaker and I still can’t help but love these blushes!BECCA 2

As you can see the colors are simply divine and they blend effortlessly into the skin. I have to say that if you are someone who is heavy-handed you must be careful with these or you could easily end up having a clown face. Partly this is why I love it! I find blushes sometimes don’t show up as my skin gets darker throughout the year and I find these blush are easily seen on my face throughout the year.

Saying this I don’t mean that they look ridiculous, but they add the perfect touch to the cheeks to really bring them out! Overall these blushes rank in my top 3 blush formulas! I simply love them and know that you will too! Make sure you check out one or a few of these if you are in the market to build your blush collection. You can now get these also at Ulta, which is amazing! Let me know what your thoughts are on these? Have you tried them?

Colour Pop Cosmetics Review

March 11, 2015 by SouthernBeautyGuide 29 Comments

Colour Pop? I’m sure if you keep up in the world of beauty then you have heard of this company. I admit I have had these products to review for a few months, but due to the long list of products I have to review I am just getting to these! I am a sucker to cheap alternatives to the high-end makeup I obsess over. When I came across these I was super excited to try them!

CP INTRO 2

These have been raved about all on YouTube for months and for good reason! The texture of the shadows are so different, they are not really cream nor are they powder. Their unique texture and high pigmentation set them apart in the world of beauty. Also something that impressed me was the high level of care Coulour Pop exhibited when packing these products. The shadows are super soft which makes them easy to break and thus require this level of care. As you can see in these picture they took a lot of effort in making these get to me in one piece.

CP INTRO 1

Let’s talk shadows! I am mostly a neutrals kind of girl, but I decided to take this opportunity to step out of my comfort zone. Are these not gorgeous? I will link each shade below the picture and I highly suggest you check these out. Not only are they highly pigmented and unique, but they also are super affordable! These are Colour Pop’s Super Shock Pressed Pigments.

(Left to Right) Fantasy, Dare, So Quiche, Envy, Bae, Sequin, & Girly

Interested in purchasing one or more of these? Just click the name below the picture of the color you are interested in. These are all wonderful and add a bit of glamour to the eye. Next let’s talk a bit about lippie sticks! I must say the texture of these is marvelous. These mainly are a satin finish. Let’s look at some swatches shall we!

Flawless & Bichette

Lippie Sticks: Flawless & Bichette

These are not super drying and I am in love with the color and texture. Best part of all is they are great quality and only $5 each! To me these are worth much more and I love the fact they roll up, so you don’t have the mess of sharpening them. Interested in these then just click the name of the shade below the picture to purchase!

Colour Pop is pretty spectacular in my opinion! They are still adding new products to their product line and collaborating with tons of beauty gurus. I did purchase these with my on money and due to them being so amazing I plan on purchasing many more. I am super interested in their new blushes! Have you tried Colour Pop Cosmetics? What products do you recommend checking out?
